I’m not going to be gross and try in any way to connect my experience with this story, other than to say my hair stood on end when I read the headline, and this couple has been in my thoughts these past few days. I love that they were out there in the world and on the road in their 70s.

Couple killed after visiting all 50 states
June 3, 2011
Friends say a Connecticut couple completed their quest to visit every state in the country before they were killed crossing a road in Ohio. Longtime friends say that Keith and Doreen Rodgers of Manchester, Conn., had just finished the last leg of their 50-state quest by visiting Indiana, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Ohio. The natives of England were killed Saturday when they were struck by a minivan in Liberty Township, Ohio. The driver whose vehicle struck them has not been charged; the accident remains under investigation. Police say that Keith Rodgers, 73, died at the scene and that Doreen Rodgers, 71, died later at a local hospital. (AP)
